Boats Past

Feeling a bit nostalgic, I went through some of our previous boats picture albums. Our first boat, the Cal 2-30, held so many memories, that even looking at the pictures made my heart hurt just a little.

I read a blog about a sailing family down in Mexico. They have a little 36 footer and are thinking of upgrading to a bigger one. For a family of 4 it does make sense. However, like us, it is hard to part with what one comes accustomed to.

We have had 3 sailboats. Two of them were Cal's. This one is by far a much more pleasant sailing vessel. Isn't it funny how these vessels grew on us so?

Another fellow sailor, Lori, told of how you feel so out of place when you are not aboard for the night. You get used to the rocking, the lulling, if you will, and the noise...clanking, creaking, the living water...that it's hard to be without it for very long.

Our first vessel, had no name..she was just ours. I used her as my canvas below decks, even Katie left her sea creature art behind (they were so little). We had a lot of fun. We lived on this boat for several years. This is where we learned to sail, to appreciate the force and sheer power of the wind and the sea...and to respect it!

It has been over a year and a half since we parted ways, but our little no named blue Cal will forever hold a dear place in my heart.
